Solar self-consumption means producing your own electricity through photovoltaic solar panels and using it directly at home. The installation is notified to DGEG in your name (prior notification, up to 30 kW of capacity) or registered above 30 kW. We handle that process for you, with your authorization.
A residential 4 kWp system with a battery costs between €6000 and €7500, with VAT at the standard rate of 23%. The free analysis includes a personalized estimate for your case.
It depends on your consumption, sun exposure and type of home. In an apartment building, installing panels on the shared roof requires prior notice to the condo management at least 60 days in advance, and the condo may oppose it in cases provided for by law.
Since July 1, 2025, the VAT rate applicable to the purchase and installation of photovoltaic solar panels is the standard rate — 23% on mainland Portugal; in the Azores and Madeira the standard rate is different. The reduced 6% rate was in force between July 2022 and June 30, 2025, but the 2025 State Budget did not extend it. The amounts shown on this page include VAT at 23%.
Not necessarily. Solar panels already reduce your electricity bill. A battery is recommended if you want to store excess energy produced during the day and use it at night, maximizing self-consumption and energy independence.
